The 6th Annual Kingfisher Derby kicked off in style Friday with Paul Clough & Operations Manager John Sedo greeting arriving participants in matching tuxes and ties.  Along with the QCL Fishing Challenge the 2 derbies have all lodge guests fishing "old-school" with weighted rods only in hopes of catching the largest salmon & halibut for the top prize money.  Taking the lead after the first day's fishing is Brian Kask Jr. with guide Greg Ettles, releasing a big Tyee scoring 44.37 pounds at Klashwun Pt.  Clay Fuller follows with a nice Spring scoring 33.61 pounds from Parker Point.
Shannon Burns and Cheri Goller share the 3rd spot with Chinooks scoring 30.5 pounds.  Top halibut Friday was picked up mooching for salmon by Sean O'Connor and weighed 31.5 pounds.  After a soggy start yesterday with a rolling southeasterly sea, guests should enjoy a pleasant day today with light southwesterlies and mixed Charlottes skies.  Stay tuned for todays results.
