Beginning this season, anyone operating a small vessel in Canada must:

- be in possession of a Pleasure Craft Operators Card ( which is available online with a study guide and a test and about $40 )  The guest must be in possession of this PCOC card along with their fishing licence while they are out in the boat.

or

- attend a boating safety orientation upon arrival at the lodge where the individual must initial each step of a prescribed form, verifying that they have been suitably instructed in the safe operation of a small watercraft.  The completed form must be signed by a lodge representative and the guest must be in possession of the form along with their fishing licence while they are out in the boat.

The law has been on a gradual implementation schedule for about 8 years and now is in full effect.  Some of our guests will have already obtained this card but some may be unaware of it.  The orientation is really a very thorough version of the one that we always provide but it has now been formalized into law.  Please note that possession of a card does not necessarily exempt a guest from attending our orientation as there are a number of details particular to our operation that each guest must be aware of.  For more information about the Pleasure Craft Operators Card visit the Transport Canada website:
