July 19th - Research on salmon catch & release survival rates by fisheries scientists in BC and Washington state continue to find excellent survival numbers for both Chinook and Coho salmon - in the order of around 90%.  They do suggest that hook injuries causing bleeding from the gill arches is the most significant factor affecting survival of large salmon after release.  If the fish is not bleeding and care is taken in handling, we find that Chinooks and Cohos respond quite well to revival and release.
