July 20th - The Queen Charlotte Islands Black Bear is a distinct subspecies, euarctos americana carlottae, generally described as being larger in size with a longer skull and heavier dentition than its mainland cousins.  We see them regularly foraging along the shoreline, flipping over rocks to get at crabs and scratching through the piles of kelp that have washed up with the tide.
